    The holder of this role leads the EIU's industry, company and wire services subscriptions editorial teams and is responsible for the development of both the teams and the products they produce. The holder of this role also a thought leader in these core areas, representing the EIU's industry, company and wire services capabilities externally to clients, sector peers and the media.


    In the role you would be expected to:

    • Lead and direct the EIU Industry, Company and Viewswire (ICVW) editorial teams
    • Provide strong management oversight of the teams, ensuring that they develop and produce high-quality and commercially-viable editorial products and services that meet the standards set by the Editorial Director
    • Act as a gatekeeper for the ICVW team’s editorial resources, balancing the demands of the EIU for support in non-product generation activities such as Consulting (and Economist Group demands such as conference speaking) against the capacity of the editorial team
    • Work in partnership with the Country Analysis Product and Innovation Director in driving exciting product developments (both editorial and technical) which have the support of the EIU sales teams and are well grounded in market feedback
    • Represent the ICVW editorial team to internal stakeholders, especially the global sales team and EIU Management Committee, conveying a sense of market knowledge and commercial awareness

    Represent the ICVW editorial team to clients and prospective clients at meetings, public speaking and in the media

    Experience, skills and professional attributes

    To succeed in the role you must have:

    • Masters degree level in economics or a related discipline
    • Experience in managing an editorial operation in an international environment
    • Experience of working collaboratively with other senior stakeholders and balancing their competing requirements
    • Broad knowledge of global political and economic trends
    • A proven ability to convey ideas and opinions coherently and with authority
    • Experience of developing deputies and other senior reports with specialist knowledge in order to deliver quality services covering areas where the job holder has no direct experience
    • Ability to spot market opportunities, translate those into strategy, and execute effectively

    Ability to work effectively with other senior stakeholders to ensure that the team best services the needs of the global business, while still able to reconcile competing demands and say no when necessary
