    As the research and analysis division of the Economist Group, The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) helps leaders prepare for opportunity, empowering them to act with confidence when making strategic decisions. The EIU is the global standard in providing quality, actionable intelligence to the public and private sector, assessing issues that impact the marketplace for over two hundred countries. The business has a large subscription client base, receiving economic, political and industry analysis through our websites, as well as a consulting business in which we are sometimes required to deliver bespoke content in digital formats (websites, and apps) to clients.     At EIU Digital, the technology function in the business, we have three kinds of work, namely strategic projects, changes requests and bug fixes, and operational activities – which deliver products to our subscribers, our online store users and our clients of custom content.


    Strategic projects can be 3 – 9 months long, with interim releases and distinct testing phases; smaller changes and bug fixes are bundled into weekly or bi-weekly releases, with testing fitted in. These projects cover the front-end web or other delivery, as well as our backend supporting systems.


    Currently, we are seeking a Business Analyst (6- month contract) to join the EIU reporting to our Programme Director in the Digital team. The successful candidate for this newly created position will be responsible for business analysis work on a product team.


    This role will be part of our rapidly growing Gurgaon team, which is connected to a wider Global presence across London and New York.  Some flexibility in terms of working across UK and US hours as well as travelling to our offices in London and New York may be required.


    In the role you would be expected to:

    • Work within a product team, particularly closely with the Product Owner and User Experience Designer to gather, document and manage business requirements and functional specifications
    • Constantly look for opportunities to improve interaction with the business, the quality and speed of requirements gathering, to move the organization in our strategic direction through tactical projects
    • Act as a liaison between the product team and software developers, translating business needs into requirements and technical specifications for implementation of new sites and system, or modification of existing ones
    • Write epics and user stories to organise work
    • Analyse change requests and ensure requirements are documented
    • Troubleshoot operational issues, recommends solutions
    • Work across many different types of clients, internal (Editorial, Product, Marketing, Finance) and external
    • Perform quality assurance activities: develop test plan, test cases and test scripts, lead, perform and track testing efforts; manage defects
    • Manage small projects, according to internal processes and standards, including scheduling and managing team activities and reporting up the project and management chains
    • Excellent spoken and written English skills are required
    • Participate in process development for the Business Analysis practice
    • Participate in forward planning, site architecture and other discussions
    • Maintain and contribute an up to date awareness of industry trends, new technology and exploring those that would benefit our business
    • Recommend tools, processes and solutions to improve the way we work

    Experience, skills and professional attributes

    To succeed in the role you must have:

    • Bachelors in Information or Computer Science or a related field, Scrum Master certification is a plus
    • At least 5 years of relevant experience
    • Experience working in an Agile team
    • Strong documentation skills to create requirement documentation and functional specifications, epics and user stories, process and data flow diagrams
    • Strong data analysis skills
    • Knowledge of data structures, database layout, content metadata and taxonomies: Understanding of database structures and layouts, data connections
    • Strong and proven problem solving skills
    • Experience working with web sites: Front-end, SEO, Accessibility / WCAG 2.0
    • Episerver or other CMS tools
    • Experience working on a content delivery site, delivering content products (as opposed to Marketing content)

    • Ability to work in a fluid environment
